DZD NEXT

The German Center for Diabetes Research (DZD) is a national association that brings together experts in the field of diabetes research and combines basic research, translational research, epidemiology, and clinical applications. The DZD focus on all aspects of translational research is strengthened by a dedicated training program for early-career scientists and clinicians in the diabetes field which is organized by the DZD head office located at Helmholtz Munich. The following elements of the program DZD NEXT are open to doctoral researchers of the International Helmholtz Research School for Diabetes:

DZD Diabetes Research School

The DZD Diabetes Research School presents a comprehensive symposium with exclusive lectures by internationally renowned scientists and inspiring discussion on topics in diabetes research to young scientists from all over the world. The focus on translational research is supported by speakers from industry besides talks from basic and clinical science. The participants present and discuss their own scientific results on posters. About 80 researchers at doctoral and postdoctoral level meet at the school ahead of an important international diabetes research conference. Current topics in diabetes are introduced by worldwide leading scientists in an inspiring and casual atmosphere and the creation of a framework for young researchers to exchange ideas across disciplines and to build up a professional network.

DZD Training and Career Courses from the Experts

Translational diabetes research requires scientists with a solid background in theory and methods. The DZD encompasses a broad spectrum of knowledge in different aspects of diabetes research and adjacent fields. DZD scientists share their specific expertise with the doctoral researchers by offering training courses covering theoretical and practical aspects of various specialized techniques. In addition, the German Centers for Health Research offer monthly Career talk series, which offers a glimpse of different career opportunities.

DZD Short Term International Research Stay and DZD Fellowship

Short term visits at collaborating DZD laboratories and short term research stays in international laboratories, respectively, are funded by the DZD to promote research collaborations, technology transfer and networking within the DZD research institutions and with international leaders in diabetes research.
