Summer Internship Program in Diabetes and Metabolism at Helmholtz Munich (SIP)- APPLICATIONS CLOSED!

Our summer internship program (SIP) at the Helmholtz Diabetes Center (HDC) at Helmholtz Munich provides a unique opportunity to pursue top-notch research in diabetes and metabolic diseases!

You will work side-by-side with talented and dedicated researchers from the HDC. You will be integrated in an international team that is engaged in translational discoveries while growing both personally and professionally in this stimulating environment.

The SIP is offered in English to outstanding Bachelor and first-year Master students with a background in biological, biochemical, cell biological or bioinformatic sciences, who are motivated to gain hands-on academic research experience. The selected interns will spend 2 months in July – August 2026 at the Helmholtz Diabetes Center working on a research project, attending weekly lectures on diverse metabolism topics and interacting with their peers, with supervising doctoral researchers and with hosting lab teams. 

The interns will learn cutting-edge techniques applied to applied to metabolic research, critically discuss and analyze data and benefit from the international experience at one of the prettiest cities of Germany, Munich.

For this year’s program, participation is open exclusively to students completing a mandatory internship as part of their academic curriculum. While the internship is unpaid, we are pleased to cover accommodation costs by providing shared-room housing for all participants.
