During the first year of the research studies graduate students will acquire the necessary basic knowledge of the pathophysiological principles of type 1 and type 2 diabetes. For ADI students, enrollment in Pharmacology 550 (Introduction to the Pharmacology Diabetes) is mandatory.
Additionally, graduate students will learn required steps for taking a discovery from proof of concept to practical application. This training will be jointly developed by the Helmholtz Diabetes Center and the Alberta Diabetes Institute. As this program will introduce graduate students coming from different research areas to the field of diabetes research participation is mandatory.
Graduate students will receive an overview on rules and guidelines of good scientific practice and research ethics during the Orientation Days of HELENA that is mandatory to all graduate students of the International Helmholtz Research School for Diabetes.
