Three Minute Thesis

The Three Minute Thesis (3MTTM) is a worldwide academic competition developed by the University of Queensland in 2008 that assists current graduate students with fostering effective presentations and communication skills. Participants have just three minutes to explain the breadth and significance of their research projects to a non-specialist audience. Participation in the 3MT competition was established at the University of Alberta in 2015. As part of the HELENA lecture series on diabetes and lung biology in April 2018, 15 graduate students presented their diabetes research in just 3 minutes.

The International Helmholtz Research School for Diabetes will continue this competition regularly by hosting annual 3MT competitions with prices for the best 3MT of the year within the research school.
