We have received over 160 applications from 49 different countries for our HRD International PhD Program Call 2022! The top-ranked 17 candidates participated in the Interview Symposium.
Dr. Kalina Draganova, HRD Coordinator, opened the program and introduced the HRD scientist representative Dr. Paul Pfluger, who gave a short overview of the Helmholtz Diabetes Centre and our International Helmholtz Research School for Diabetes (HRD) followed by an interesting introduction to diabetes and the importance of fighting this world-wide threat.
Afterwards, each candidate had the chance to convince the reviewers of their skills during a short talk, where they presented their Master project. The candidate presentations were followed by project leader presentations, at which the students could also get a glimpse of the lab's expertise and interests. On the second day, each of the applicants had to prove themselves once again at the panel interview with 3 senior scientists and had the opportunity to conduct speed interviews with potential group leaders. The last day of the interview symposium was used for individual meetings with project leaders, their teams and exploring the working environment through virtual lab visits.
