We were really excited to organize this year´s Joint Sympoisum and to welcome our partners from ADI in person in Munich! Six of our ADI-based trainees were joined by Dr. Peter Senior (ADI Director) and Dr. Vince Rogers (ADI Director of Operations).
This year the symposium was preceeded by a satellite public event on the topic of Diabetes organized in downtown Munich in conjunction with the Canadian Embassy in Germany. The keynote from Prof. Stephan Herzig and the panel discussion with Prof. Anette-Gabriele Ziegler, Prof. Carolin Daniel and Prof. Peter Senior on the future of diabetes research and treatment were followed by an evening reception and the first HRD Science Art competition.
Congratulations to Sara Bilekova, who was voted the winner by the audience with her beautiful microscopic image and was awarded a travel grant. Thanks to all participants and thanks to Mr. Jordan Khan, Scientific counsellor of the Canadian Embassy in Germany and moderator of the event.
Over the course of 2 days, the Joint Symposium took place in a hybrid format and provided excellent opportunity for networking, exchange and of course, presentations on the latest and exciting approaches in the field of diabetes research. The students presented their research to their Canadian and German peers and collaborators, followed by a social dinner on the final day.
In addition, the doctoral students participated in professional development courses in networking and scientific collaboration, as well as in social media to enhance their research impact.
